Mr. Hames is a recognized appellate expert and is often quoted in legal publications on issues of appellate procedure and practice. Mr. Hames has written over one hundred briefs to the Georgia Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. In the past few years Mr. Hames has had great success in the Georgia Court of Appeals. While he has primarily defended the ruling of a trial court on appeal, Mr. Hames has successfully persuaded appellate courts to overturn the trial court in several high profile cases. In law school, Mr. Hames was a part of the appellate advocacy clinic at Tulane Law School. In his work with the clinic Mr. Hames helped draft a brief on the merits for an en banc argument of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Additionally, Mr. Hames prepared a petition for a writ of certiorari to the United States Supreme Court. At the Office of the Georgia Attorney General, Mr. Hames was privileged to work with and learn from some of the best appellate lawyers in the state of Georgia. During his time with that office Mr. Hames was lead counsel in several precedent setting cases. Mr. Hames is currently the immediate past chair of the appellate practice section of the Georgia State Bar. He has been a member of the leadership of that section for the last four years. Mr. Hames chaired the State Appellate Practice Seminar for two years and was a member of the organizing committee for the Eleventh Circuit Appellate Practice Institute. In 2008, Mr. Hames moderated a panel that contained Associate Justice Clarence Thomas, Senior Judge Phyllis Kravitch of the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and Raul Cantero, former Justice of the Florida Supreme Court.
